Marks & Spencer to expand M&S Simply Food in London
Marks & Spencer’s food retailing chain, M&S Simply Food is all set to expand in London and around the M25. Last year, the company announced its expansion plan to open around 35 new Simply Food stores across London and the M25 area in the next three years. At present, M&S has around 100 Simply Food stores in London and the M25 area and over 500 M&S Simply Food stores across the UK.
In this context, Marks & Spencer’s Official Spokesperson said: "There is a vast prospect for us to grow our Simply Food business in the capital. The reason behind opening more Simply Food stores across London and the M25 area is that the foodies in London love the convenience of being able to pick up their evening meal close to home or work. Company’s strategy is to improve access to its Simply Food stores and this will make the company open an additional 200 stores nationwide."
The new stores will be a mix of both company-owned and franchisee-run depending upon the size and location. Stating the requirements in terms of area, the Official Spokesperson added: "Owned stores trade between 5,000-15,000 sq. ft and are located on traditional high streets and retail parks while, the franchise stores are small that are spread over an average area of 1,000 sq. ft and located in highly convenient travel hubs; such as rail stations, airports, motorway service areas and on BP forecourts."
Marks & Spencer was established in 1884. It is one of the multinational retailers of UK that specialises in the selling of clothing, home products and luxury food. It has over 480 international stores across 59 territories in Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
