Modern Montessori International London opens its first preschool in Myanmar

Modern Montessori International (MMI), a global brand name in early childhood education and one of the prominent preschool education providers has opened its first preschool in Myanmar. The group is the master franchisee of Modern Montessori International London for the Asia-Pacific region.

Singapore Education Training Academy Co. Ltd (SETA) is the local franchisee of MMI that will handle and administer the affairs of MMI’s preschool in Myanmar. The preschool is a 50-50 joint venture between Singapore and Myanmar partners. Talking about the preschool opening, Dr. T. Chandroo, Chairman and CEO, MMI said: “The opening of first preschool in Myanmar is the part of our expansion strategy by utilising the increasing demand for high quality early education in Asia. MMI group has set a target to open 20 new preschools and teacher training centres in Asia by 2017.”

With an initial investment of US$500,000, the preschool is expected to achieve revenues exceeding US$200,000 in the first year of operations. Revenue is projected to double in the second year. Revealing their expansion plans, Chandroo further added: “We are planning to expand our footprints beyond Myanmar. At the end of this year, we will open a new preschool in Vietnam.” MMI Group has over 100 offices, preschools and training offices in London, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Hong Kong, India, Sri Lanka, the U.A.E., Egypt, Kenya and Nigeria. Its principal office is based in the UK, with overseas offices in Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Thailand, India, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria, UAE and Vietnam.

SETA is the brainchild of Singapore-based professionals and businessmen. It was established in Yangon region to introduce Singaporean education brand to Myanmar.
